Historic Home Tour with Great Day Connecticut

We had the special honor of giving  Melissa Cole  a tour of The Farmhouse as part of Great Day Connecticut’s Historic Home Tour Series. Watch the tour below!

Something we’re immensely proud of at The Farmhouse was our sustainability initiative throughout the two-year renovation process, and we were thrilled to be able to focus on that during the tour. Making every decision through a sustainability lens resulted in the preservation of numerous original features throughout the home (and in many instances being able to highlight and feature them in a way they were not previously), such as all posts and beams, exposed ceilings, fieldstone chimney and (most of the) flooring. Furthermore, every piece of wood that was removed during the demo process and could not be used in its original format was later re-introduced back into the home during the rebuild process— each piece of salvaged wood was stripped, planed, cut to size, eventually stained, sealed or painted and then used for its new purpose. For example, every window frame and piece of floor trim are made entirely from reclaimed wood from the original structure. This initiative extended into our furnishings as well, and 50% of the home’s furnishings and housewares are either secondhand, vintage or antique. The goal in the renovation was to merge the past and present in every corner; to honor the home’s history while creating a comfortable experience for today’s house guest. It’s what we feel makes this old home special, and we’re so excited to share more of its story.
